To the surprise of no one, it turns out Jack’s debate challenge issued to IGDA’s Jason Della Rocca was simply another angle for Jack to make a buck. Apparently, Jackie was pissed off enough about a comment that some random person made over on Kotaku (suggesting Jack should be shot) that he decided to include the parent company of Kotaku, Gawker Media, in a pending action against the Florida Bar Association. Kotaku mentions it here briefly. They are likely being cautious about saying too much. Game Politics has full coverage.
Some numbnuts 14-year-old wrote a sarcastic letter to JT asking him which weapon he should use to shoot up 20 or 30 of his classmates. That wasn’t the smartest thing he ever did because he was promptly arrested, checked out, and let go. Here is the content of the letter:
Hello, Jack Thompson.
I am going to shoot 20-30 people at my school, UC Berkeley, but I am not sure on what gun to use. Any suggestions? I am also looking for a game to train with. Do you have any ideas? I am fairly new to this.

So Jack has thrown down the gauntlet at IGDA executive director Jason Della Rocca’s feet, challenging him to a debate on how violent video games relate to the Virginia Tech shootings. The sensible side of me (and likely Jason) says that this is a challenge from a desperate media whore that can safely be ignored. The other side of me wishes to see Jack publicly humiliated.
